We suggest having a project in mind and a cut list ready! You will get the most for your money and it will be more likely that you put the wood to some use. Whether it is wood for the siding of your barn, a mantel for your living room, or some slabs for a beautiful table, we will come take a look at what you have got and give you a free* quote and an honest opinion.
Tips For Saving Money:
- Have a project in mind. After the quote, create a cut list of exactly what you are hoping to get cut.
- Choose a site for the sawmill to set up. It should be level, clear, and close to where your logs are and where you want your cut lumber stacked.
- Organize the logs. Ideally, if you are getting your trees cut down by a tree company, you would have them do this for you before they leave. Their trucks can do it in minutes; it is going to take me a lot longer to roll your logs using a peavey. If you know the length you want, have them make those cuts and stack them accordingly. Pick out the nice, straight logs and put them in a separate pile from anything you do not plan to use. Moving logs around can take up time - especially if buried under logs you won't be using or having to move logs forwards and backwards instead of being able to roll them side-to-side. Face them all in the same direction, ready to roll onto the mill. If this is not an option for you, don't worry. We can move the logs and we can move the mill, but understand that this will take time.
- Work with me! The job goes twice as fast with another person. You could help by pulling the lumber from the mill and stacking it while I make the next cut. Not to mention, you will know exactly what you are getting as soon as it is cut. You will also be able to make decisions on the spot, provide your input, and it's pretty cool to see the process!
